More than 90% of the chickpea harvest is produced in South and Western Asia: India (72%), Pakistan (10%), Iran (5%), Turkey (4%)

In terms of nutritional value, chickpeas surpass all other types of legumes, including peas, beans, and soybeans. In terms of the content of essential amino acids — methionine and tryptophan — chickpeas have an advantage over other legumes.
